2018 World Series of Poker

“Poker is a skill game pretending to be a chance game.”
– James Altucher, entrepreneur and author

In 2017, over 7,200 poker players came together in Las Vegas at the Rio Hotel for the World Series of Poker Main Event. With one of the largest prize pools in the 48-year WSOP Main Event history ($67,877,400), Scott Blumstein walked away with the title, its coveted bracelet, and $8,150,000.

This year, the 49th Annual World Series of Poker returns to the Pavilion, Brasilia, and Amazon rooms at the Rio Hotel. Daily Deep Stack tournaments started on May 29, and will continuously test the skills and press the luck of its players until July 15, overlapping the start of the flights on July 2nd and 3rd and throughout the earliest annual start of the Main Event on July 4, 2018. But the early start isn’t the only difference this year; a record 13 events will start AFTER the start of the Main Event, including the $565 COLOSSUS No-Limit with a $1 million guaranteed first place purse and the online only one-day $365 No Limit tournament. Other fun events such as the $1,500 CLOSER on the final day (Event #75) and the BIG ONE FOR ONE $1,000,000 buy-in 2-day event (Event #78) highlight the end of poker’s largest and most famous annual event. Both the BIG ONE FOR ONE and Main Event will be televised on ESPN and Poker Central.

LOCATION

The Carnival of Brazil themed Rio Hotel is located west of the Strip and visible off of Interstate 15 at Flamingo Road. The home of the WSOP for the past 13 years, the Rio Hotel uses its vast convention area to house the over 120,000 poker playing hopefuls who come through its doors in hopes of winning a coveted bracelet.

WHEN IN RIO

First is the Pavilion room, where the majority of Day 1 will be held. Satellites and side cash games are also played in this massive, hangar-like room. The overflow from Day 1 and most of Day 2 will be held in the Brasilia room. The last room is the Amazon room, where the “Mothership” final table is televised in front of a live audience.
