NASCAR Bojangles’ Southern 500 September 3, 2017

“Finishing races is important, but racing is more important.”
–Dale Earnhardt, seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup champion

Are you ready to rumble? If you are, the NASCAR Bojangles’ Southern 500 is this Sunday, September 3rd, 2017 at the Darlington Raceway in Darlington, South Carolina. The race begins at 6:00pm ET.

The Bojangles’ Southern 500 was the very first 500-mile NASCAR race in 1950. This race is 501miles (or 367 laps) of pure NASCAR adrenaline, calculated lines, and speed. It was the only 500-miler until the infamous Daytona 500 debuted nine years later.

But the race in Darlington is more than one race on one day. Starting at noon ET on Friday, the NASCAR XFINITY series practice runs for fifty-five minutes. Immediately after is the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice. Final practices for both series will run all afternoon until 5pm.

Saturday has more racing with pole position qualifiers for both the XFINITY Series and Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series at 12:00pm and 2:00pm respectively.

The big show is on Sunday. The 2018 NASCAR Hall of Fame Inductees will serve as grand marshals – Ray Evernham, Ken Squier, Ron Hornaday, and Robert Yates will tell the drivers to, “Start Your Engines,” along with Clifton Rutledge, Bojangle’s CEO. Cars will be painted in Throwback colors and schemes to honor NASCAR’s history, stories, and heritage. Renown drivers such as Stewart-Haas Racing’s Danica Patrick, Joe Gibb’s Racing’s Kyle Busch, Kurt Busch, Team Penske’s Brad Keselowski, and seven-time champion in the Monster Energy Cup Series, Jimmie Johnson.
