Submissions have been made and deadlines have passed. After last year’s record-setting attendance, the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival presented by AT&T in New York City Is ready for another stellar 12-day event April 18-29, 2018. It is a film festival founded in 2002 by Jane Rosenthal, Robert De Niro, and Craig Hatkoff. The purpose of the festival is to support and celebrate New York as a major filmmaking center with both the international film community and New York’s general public.

Love, Gilda, a documentary of female comedienne icon Gilda Radner’s life and legacy, will open the 17th annual Tribeca Film Festival at the Beacon Theater. In this heartwarming and funny film, Gilda looks back at her life and career with interviews with her friends, recently discovered video tapes, diary entries ready by fellow comediennes including fellow SNL’er Amy Poehler, and home movies in this feature, full-length documentary by CNN Films and produced by 3 Faces Films along with Motto Pictures with support by the Gilda Radner estate.

Tribeca has evolved into much more than film. With the premier of Hulu’s critically acclaimed Golden Globe and Emmy award-winning show, The Handmaid’s Tale, television entered into the Tribeca Festival last year. The Tribeca Games Festival also had its inaugural year in 2017 with the British electronics producer and multi-talented instrumentalist Mura Masa, and finally, VR (virtual reality) combined storytelling with the latest in technology. This year, Tribeca Immersive, ten days of virtual arcade featuring storyscapes where one can explore art found in the virtual world from top and emerging creators and artists. 2018’s festival will expand in all of these medias as well as the expectation to exceed last year’s record breaking record high submissions and film sales to distributors.
